This workshop is eligible for 6 hours in the Leadership & Human Resources OR Organizational Development Track of the Certificate in Nonprofit Management.
This workshop is the third in the Nonprofit Minority Executive Leadership Certificate for 2017.

This workshop provides 6.0 CFRE credits.

Workshop description: 

A theory of change is a powerful tool that helps an organization articulate the connection between its mission and its programs, using the language of outcomes. It’s an organizational story of how and why the world will be different because of what it does. A theory of change is an argument for why you exist and why you are effective. Because of this, a theory of change has important implications for the leadership of an organization, both staff and board.
In this one-day workshop, we explore what a theory of change is, how an organization can use a theory of change, and the implications of a theory of change for staff and board leadership. The workshop is a combination of presentation, discussion, and hands-on practice. Throughout the workshop, participants will practice creating a theory of change for their organization and leave with strategies for continuing the work with the rest of their team. 

Target Audience: This workshop requires no previous knowledge. It is ideal for any staff member with leadership responsibilities at the organization or program level. This workshop is also beneficial for board members to attend and we encourage board and staff members from an organization to attend together.

Presenter's Bio:
Al Onkka is a principal consultant at Aurora Consulting, a Minnesota-based firm serving nonprofits. He works at the leadership level to help nonprofits plan for the future and evaluate their impact. Al Onkka has worked in the field of evaluation, promoting data-based decision-making and organizational learning, since 2009. Al earned his master’s degree in Evaluation Studies from UMN’s Department of Organizational Leadership, Policy, and Development. He serves on the board of the Minnesota Evaluation Association and enjoyed his recent tenure as board chair of Rainbow Rumpus, a Minneapolis literary nonprofit. He’s been a Senior Consultant at Aurora since 2015 and is a co-owner and principal as of 2017.

 Event Logistics:

  • The cost of the workshop does not include lunch (unless you are a candidate for the Executive Leadership Certificate).
  • A map of lunch options will be provided in an email sent to you prior to the workshop.
  • Workshop slides will be emailed to you prior to the workshop.
  • Morning coffee will be provided.
  • Water will be provided throughout the day.
  • Parking validation will be provided for all attendees who park in the garage below the library. The library has a new system of validating parking. Keep your parking pass as you will receive a sticker to validate.
