The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) is the professional association for individuals responsible for generating philanthropic support for a wide variety of not-for-profit, charitable organizations. Originally founded in 1960 (as NSFRE), AFP advances philanthropy through its more than 20,000 members in 154 chapters throughout North America. Title: "Communications for Non-Profit Organizations"
Speaker: Kathy Rotte, Communications Director, St. John's Jesuit High School & Academy & Esther Fabian, Assoc. Vice President of Branding & Creative Services, The University of Toledo
Program Learning Goals: Members and guests will gain an understanding of marketing and communications tools essential for non-profits in today's media driven culture. The presenters will also cover strategies for using online marketing tools to maximize resources available for communications activities.
Topic Areas to be Covered:
(a) Communications:
- How to determine the best means of connecting and communicating to donors, such as direct mail, online, social media, face to face;
- Importance of an "elevator speech" and what are key elements;
- Building donor affinity through messaging;
- How to be donor-centered in message, but still effectively communicate the needs of the organization;
- Crafting a message that overcomes donor fatigue and over-solicitation;
-What is a communications audit? Why should they consider one?

-What are the critical elements necessary for a giving page on our website?
-Marketing events on-line and using social media
-Social media in fundraising
