This workshop is eligible for 3 hours in the Marketing and Media track of the Certificate in Nonprofit Management.

Workshop description: 
A marketing budget…what if you don’t have one or it’s not a very big budget? How can you share your
story using what is available to you?
This workshop will cover tried and true methods to help bring your organization’s marketing and public
relations efforts into sync at all levels.
As part of this workshop, we will:

  • examine tactics for creating marketing plans
  • discuss how to properly craft and distribute press releases
  • discuss how to craft effective public service announcements
  • discuss meaningful media relations and how to maintain them
  • discuss how social networking such as Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms have transformed how nonprofits communicate with donors and the community at large.

This is a session that will go from the basics in nonprofit marketing to some of the most cutting edge
technologies, all while focusing on the bottom line. You can learn how these techniques are relatively
free or extremely low cost for your agency.

Nonprofit marketing and development staff, board members and volunteers

Presenter's Bio:
Laura M. Macknick, MA, CFRE has over 15 years’ experience working in nonprofit fundraising, grant writing, communications, public relations and event planning. 
She has personally guided donors to make more than $20.5M in charitable contributions and managed fundraising projects of more than $60M in her career.  

Prior to launching her own nonprofit and fundraising consulting firm, Macknick Philanthropy Advisors, she served as the Director of Development for 
Trine University in Angola, Indiana. Before joining Trine, she was the Executive Director for Resource Development at Ivy Tech Community College Northeast 
in Fort Wayne and helped launch the “Dream Big” capital campaign. Macknick also served for many years in capital campaign and major gift fundraising d
development for Purdue University during the $1.7B “Campaign for Purdue.”    

Laura completed her Bachelor’s degree in History at Purdue University and her Master’s degree in Nonprofit Administration and Philanthropy from the 
Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at IUPUI in 2015. Macknick is also a graduate of the Leadership Lafayette program.
