2009 Capacity Building Grant - Round 2

The Center for Nonprofit Resources is committed to ensuring that nonprofit organizations in our region have the information and resources required to operate in an efficient and effective manner through quality training, technical assistance, and capacity building grant opportunities.

Capacity building funds are intended to strengthen a nonprofit’s ability to fulfill its mission and build long-term organization sustainability by promoting capable leaders, sound management and strong governance. Examples of things we funded during year one of the grant and eligible projects are:
  • Organizational assessment, evaluation of overall effectiveness and strategic planning
  • Succession planning
  • Fund Development Plan
  • Technology Improvement
  • External Development Strategies - Website Development
  • Board and Staff Development
  • Human Resource Policies and Procedures
  • Program Evaluation and Measurement
  • Development of a Volunteer Program
  • Financial Management Systems – Audits or development of financial procedures

Eligibility
Funds cannot be used to pay for fundraising or solicitation, direct services or augmenting or supplanting direct service delivery funds, medical/health related activities or items, construction and purchase of real property or to support inherently-religious activities such as religious instruction, worship, or proselytization. Faith based and community based organizations serving Lucas, Wood, Fulton and Ottawa counties and demonstrate a relationship to the priority areas of at-risk youth and families transitioning from welfare to work.

Grant Information Session
You are strongly encouraged to attend the Capacity Building Grant Information Session being held Wednesday, December 2, 2009. The session will be from 8:30 a.m. till 9:30 a.m. in Conference Room A at United Way of Greater Toledo. This will be your opportunity to ask questions about the application process, eligibility, capacity building initiatives etc. 

Grant Application Process 
The deadline date for receipt of proposals in The Center office is December 30, 2009. Applications must be received in The Center for Nonprofit Resources office by 5:00 p.m. (or postmarked) by the due date.

Applicant organizations are notified, in writing, of approval/denial of funding requests within 6 weeks after the application deadline. Project expenses incurred by an applicant organization prior to notification cannot be paid by The Center.

Conditions
Funds must be used for their stated purpose within one year. All applications are subject to availability of funds. All activities will be governed by all applicable Federal laws and regulations including those in 45 CFR 87.1 (Equal Treatment for Faith-based Organizations) - click here for a copy.

Organizational Readiness/Assessment Survey
This survey must be included with your application. The survey includes an assessment of the various capacities of your organization, including adaptive capacity, leadership capacity, management capacity, and technical capacity.   The survey will not be used by The Center in evaluating your application, but is designed to be a tool to assist you write your RFP and to develop future workshops. Click here to download the survey.
