Sylvania STEM Center

Our mission: To inspire young people to become science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting STEM based activities both in and out of the classroom.

At Sylvania STEM Center our goal is to provide thought-provoking STEM activities to youth in Northwest Ohio, inspiring innovation and fostering well-rounded life experiences including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.  The Center is the place where all youth are welcome and can safely explore and learn.

We offer mentor based competitive robotics teams in the FIRST program (FLL Jr., FLL, FTC and FRC).  At the Center we offer a variety of Summer Camps to explore coding, solar power, rockets, underwater ROV’s and more. We also offer In-school and After School STEM programming including coding, Scratch, robotics and 3D printers.   

Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, the Fund Development Manager is responsible for securing funding for Sylvania STEM Center and will spearhead the effort to maintain and grow our relationships with and leverage resources of private charitable, corporate, and community foundations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Generates revenue for the Sylvania STEM Center through timely submission of well researched, well written and well documented fundraising proposals.
  • Manage prospect research, develop letters of inquiries and proposals, secure corporate sponsors for programs, and produce narrative and financial reports for restricted program funding as required.
  • Research foundations, corporations, and other potential funders in order to evaluate prospects for grant funding.
  • Establish, develop and maintain strong relationships with funding contacts through phone calls, face-to-face meetings, and networking events.
  • Promotes Sylvania STEM Center through networking and public relations work.
  • Maintain calendar to ensure prioritization of multiple projects, timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposals, and reports.
  • Meets with Director of Operations on weekly basis to communicate task updates and monthly to review mutually agreed goals.
  • Assist with other fundraising duties as necessary to contribute to the overall success of Sylvania STEM Center.

**Additional responsibilities may be assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 2 or more years' experience working as a fundraiser preferred.
  • Proven written communication skills demonstrating a command of technical and storytelling language; includes the ability to write persuasively, clearly and concisely and to blend information from multiple sources into a single, effective document.
  • A solid understanding of programmatic budgets as required for grants and proposals.
