Job Description:

Position Summary:
The Life Skills Transition Coordinator will be responsible for job preparation and assistance in job placement for youth with disabilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assist young adults with skills training necessary to transition into competitive and meaningful volunteer and employment opportunities.
2. Facilitate skills training sessions that focus on employability skills including but not limited to: soft skills for the workplace, communication, time management, conflict resolution, interest/talent assessments, career planning, volunteerism, etc. as they pertain to individual employment goals.
3. Serve as a consumer advocate to empower consumers to self-advocate to receive services from other social service providers in the community.
4. Develop relationships with community businesses to ensure volunteer and employment opportunities.
5. Will be the primary liaison for Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD).
6. Will collaborate with OOD and their vendors to coordinate vocational programming for a summer program which includes assisting students on selecting a vendor and work site.
7. Assist with the development and implementation of OOD self-advocacy classes.
8. Will be responsible for maintaining a case load to evaluate goals, objectives, and trainings.
9. Will provide quarterly educational meetings to parents and families of consumers with set transition goals.
10. Maintain Facebook pages for Life Skills parents and Next Steps students. Do weekly posts in the parent group on upcoming events/info and discussion topics on transition and education.
Qualifications:
Experience, Education, and Licensure
Bachelor’s degree preferred in Human Services. Prefer employee have at least 2 years’ experience working with transition age youth, which includes workforce development, vocational education, job coaching, and skills training. Previous teaching or training experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must demonstrate excellent communications skills and the ability to build rapport and collaborate effectively with consumers, community organizations, professionals, and parents/family members. Knowledge of disability and employment resources/agencies in our community required. Must have experience planning, coordinating, and training individuals and groups, preferably with disabilities. Must be goal oriented and display the ability to motivate others to work toward common goals. Ability to travel throughout our service area. All candidates must pass a FBI/BCII background check if position is offered.
Understanding of and commitment to the Independent Living Philosophy is required. Personal experience with disability preferred.
