Peer Recovery Specialist

Position Title:       Peer Recovery Specialist 

Supervision:        Executive Director

General Description:

The Peer Recovery Specialist is expected to provide information on mental health and social services in Wood County and surrounding areas, to seek information on appropriate services, facilities and programming and to provide support, education and advocacy for families and individuals affected by mental illness.

Essential Duties, Tasks, and Major Responsibilities:

  • Co-coordinates the operations of peer programming
  • Trained and capable of facilitating all WRAP programs (10+), Peer to Peer, NAMI Connection, In Our Own Voice, FaithNet, and others as needed
  • Cultivate relationships with peers in recovery throughout the community
  • Sustain relationships with peer run operations and gatherings
    • Ie- the clubhouse, Nite-out with NAMI, and others
  • Maintains, frequently updates, and replenishes the resource files
  • Remain up-to-date on all programs
  • Provides support in the community for peers in recovery
  • Connect peers to resources in Wood County and beyond
  • Complete reports for all programs facilitated
  • Complete monthly reports for grant funding requirements
  • Maintain a list for peer contacts
  • Maintain an inventory of NAMI WC related items at provider agencies and hospitals
  • Attend NAMI board meetings, board committee meetings, and staff meetings
  • Participate in conferences and community meetings relevant to the Peer Recovery Specialist position and job duties. Examples include:
    • NAMI Ohio, Ohio Recovery Conference, and NAMI Wood County conferences
    • Community meetings pertaining to the Peer Recovery Specialist position
  • Other tasks not specified may be assigned as necessary

Key Skills and Competencies:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to complete tasks in a timely and organized manner
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interact with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team


  • Certified Peer Support Specialist or in the process of training
  • Certified in First Aid and CPR
  • Certified in Mental Health First Aid
  • Reliable transportation
  • Previous work experience preferred, but not required
