Job Description:

Shelter Monitors will perform all duties and responsibilities in a manner that models the mission and vision of Beach House, Inc.

SUMMARY:

Provides services to shelter clients of Beach House, Inc.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In collaboration with the Shelter Monitor Supervisor, Shelter Program Director and Shelter Client Services Coordinator, contributes to day to day operations of the shelter, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with clients, staff, vendors, donors and volunteers.
  • Provide direct services to clients including: intakes, preparing and serving meals, cleaning and sanitizing, doing laundry, completing hygiene requests, proving access to medication, wake-up calls, ensuring that clients know when chores are to be completed and how to properly complete them and ensuring that clients know where to find and how to complete the proper forms to get what they need from the Shelter Client Services Coordinator and/or Shelter Program Director.
  • Completing the proper paperwork to document and communicate any client issues, questions, behaviors, warnings, write-ups and other client information to the Shelter Client Services Coordinator.
  • Complete the proper paperwork to document and communicate any staff issues, questions, time-off requests and changes in shift availability to the Shelter Monitor Supervisor.
  • Monitoring security cameras, ensuring all windows and doors are secure and completing walk-throughs of the building.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and/or trainings.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical conduct regarding confidentiality, dual-relationships and professional stature.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Certification in CPR & First Aid or willing to obtain certification within first 90 days of employment
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen and background check

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of people in a diverse community.
  • Ability to monitor, describe and record client actions and behaviors.
  • Ability to work well independently and with a team.
  • Ability to wear food safety apparel and safely operate kitchen appliances.
  • Ability to use cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to use a vacuum cleaner and sustain repetitive motion
  • Ability to stand, walk and work on feet for extended period of time
  • Ability to effectively manage work days and time
  • Ability to bend, reach, climb stairs, lift 40-50 lbs., push/pull 50 lb. item down the stairs, moving furniture, lifting garbage bags, food baskets, move-in packets, and lift children

  • Adheres to Beach House, Inc.’s policies and procedures
  • Acts as a role model inside and outside of the organization
