Job Summary

Under supervision of the Thomas M. Wernert Center (TMWC) Development Director, the Outreach and Development Specialist will engage with patients, staff and the public in psychiatric units in hospitals, at resource fairs, at community behavioral and mental health centers, learning institutions, businesses and civic groups to inform audiences on the programs and services offered at TMWC to encourage awareness, membership and participation. This includes, but is not limited to, giving presentations, completing follow-up communication (calls, emails, mailings, etc.) with prospective and current members as well as mental health service providers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities will Include, but are not Limited to:

  • Establishing and nurturing relationships with providers at community behavioral and mental health centers, hospitals, social service agencies to schedule and facilitate ongoing presentations to encourage providers to inform their clients of the programs and services offered at TMWC
  • Making and recording points of contact with individuals met during outreach to encourage new membership registration
  • Making and recording points of contact with providers met during outreach to encourage referrals
  • Assisting with contacting current members to encourage participation in programs and services
  • Assisting in producing internal and external publications and marketing materials, per TMWC Media and Style Guide Policy
  • Assisting in monitoring information on www.wernertcenter.org and social media platforms
  • Coordinating Annual Health and Wellness Fair
  • Attending community health and wellness resource events

Experience, Educational Qualifications and Abilities

  • An Associate Degree in business, communication, marketing, mental health technology, or related human services field is preferred
  • Outreach, development, sales and marketing experience preferred
  • Valid First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or will obtain
  • Working with adults living with mental illness and/or substance use disorder, developmental disabilities or related fields in social service preferred
  • Personal or lived experience with mental illness preferred
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Access/use of personal vehicle
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
