Camp Lifeguard

Summary: 

Works with children and adults with disabilities in residential and day camp settings. Under general supervision, ensures the safety of campers, staff, and volunteers at our aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

Maintains constant surveillance of participants in the pool area; acts immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of participants in the event of an emergency. 

Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services. 

Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of conduct. 

Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility. Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports. 

Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. 

Required to follow all established COVID-19 protocols. These protocols are under constant revision as new research and recommendations come forward.

Qualifications: 

CPR Certified; Current certification as Lifeguard by a recognized source of training. Must be 18 years of age. Previous education or work related to persons with disabilities or previous recreation experience preferred but not required. Previous or present high school education and basic written and oral communication English skills a must. Required to have a current application, resume, and letters of reference (as requested) on file with Courageous Community Services, Inc. A satisfactory FBI/BCI criminal background check required prior to employment. 

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required: 

Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. 

Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques. 

Ability to pass a skills evaluation as stipulated by the department. 

Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork. 

Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures. 

Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions. 

Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures. 

 

Temporary:

Camp runs from June 1 – August 27th 8-12 hour days with weekends off. Staff can commute or stay in camp lodging.

Pay Details: 

The schedule will be set, varying between 2-5 days per week, depending on the availability and number of lifeguards hired. Pay periods will be bi-weekly. The contract for pay is based on experience. Appropriate taxes will be withheld.
