Parenting Education Coordinator

General Description:

Provide interactive parenting education to clients referred to the agency by LCCS, TMC or self-referred, addressing the client’s personal family needs as well as educating the client on the standard parenting education curriculum.  Work closely with client’s case workers to ensure that client is progressing on their case plan and absorbing the material.  Facilitating parent/child observations to ascertain client’s progress in the parenting program and communicating findings to client’s caseworker.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assist clients and their families in goal-directed supports and solution-focused interventions.
  2. Address challenges faced by clients with behavioral health needs.
  3. Plan and provide psychiatric supportive treatment and care for patients.
  4. Provide face-to-face and phone intervention with the child/youth, family/caregiver or other collateral supports.
  5. Delivers rehabilitative psychoeducation, strength based service planning, and/or rehabilitative supports.
  1. Provide comprehensive case coordination to assist youth, adults, and their families with skill building, crisis management, and providing linkages to community resources such as housing, transportation, vocational, medical, and financial services.
  1. Maintain patient confidentiality.
  2. Provides education and supportive treatment services for patients and their families as needed, and documents care given in the electronic health record.
  3. Ensures long-term services meet established program goals and outcomes.
  4. Collaborates with community professionals to keep current and relevant to the community’s needs for long-term services.
  5. Adheres to all agency and program policies and procedures.
  6. Performs all other duties as requested or assigned by the Chief Executive Officer that support the mission and goals of the agency.
  7. Provides courteous, high quality service to patients and members of the public by personally responding to requests for service or making appropriate referral.

Qualifications:

  1. Practitioners with a degree in social work, psychology, or in related human services plus one year of applicable experience OR who has been certified in an Evidenced Based Practice.
  2. Clear understanding of issues related to mental health.
  3. Ability to provide supportive services to a diverse population.
  4. Valid driver’s license, availability of an automobile, and proof of liability insurance.

  • Has an in-depth understanding of mental health issues and concerns as well as knowledge about best practice parenting techniques and the ability to apply evidence-based practice principles, procedures, and techniques used in the care and treatment of child, adolescent and adult behavioral health client population
  • Is knowledgeable about social, psychological, and physical factors of mental and emotional disorders and best practices in mental health.
  • Is aware of individual, cultural, familial, and societal factors related to mental health concerns and parenting practices. Understands issues related to cultural competency and is able to engage and effectively work with diverse individuals.
  • Is knowledgeable about issues of child abuse, domestic violence and its impact on children. This includes types of abuse, shaken baby syndrome, mandated reporting, risk and protective factors, signs and symptoms of abuse, offender typologies and methods, community resources, child abuse system, and safety strategies.
  • Is knowledgeable about best practice interventions for treatment of child abuse, family violence and trauma.
  • Understands the intersections of family violence and other family, health and social problems, including:
    1. Mental health disorders
    2. Substance abuse
    3. Poverty, homelessness and unemployment
    4. Crime
    5. Physical health
  • Has knowledge of ethics and responds to clients in an ethical manner.
  • Is able to maintain productive work relationships with Multidisciplinary Team Members and other professionals within the community.
  • Understands the components of effective documentation.
  • Has effective presentation skills. Is able to break down complex information into understandable and usable material for diverse age ranges and audiences.
  • Is able to recruit for, train, and oversee long-term services.
  • Is able to collect and accurately input data into the EHR in accordance with agency timelines.
  • Is able to generate accurate and timely reports.
  • Is able to network and collaborate to generate opportunities to mental health awareness and services in the community.
  • Is able to utilize Microsoft Office programs to carry out program duties.
  • Has professional work skills including dependability, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Has a working understanding of client engagement, client-family assessment and treatment planning techniques
  • Has an understanding of vicarious traumatization and self-care skills to avoid burn-out.
